Tap
The Tap program at BKSD is a new style offered to
the Valley. Brian is pleased to be teaching the Al
Gilbert's renowned STEPPING TONE Tap syllabus.
It is a program with a strong emphasis on
technique and is still a fun and exciting experience
for students. Students will be placed in classes
based on prior experience.
BKSD is offering a “LITTLE TAPPERS” Program
for students from 3-5 years old. This program is
designed to teach students the basics of tap while
encouraging a love of dance and music.
Musical Theatre
The Musical Theatre program is designed to teach
students how to excel in everything they do. The
program will include such things as 'how to
audition”, “personal presentation” “singing and
dancing” “theatre games”. The Musical Theatre
Program is designed to incorporate speech, singing,
dancing and acting leading to well rounded and
strong performers. This year we are pleased to
enhance this program with once monthly Vocal
Class Lessons (one Saturday per month) with Ms.
Jennifer Riley of Cantiamo Chamber Ensemble and
the Vanier Music Department.
Jazz
Jazz classes incorporate many styles of dance and
technique. Jazz dancing is a wonderful class to
increase coordination and free flowing movement.
Students will learn various styles of jazz
incorporated with ballet technique. Classes consist
of warm ups, strength training, technique
advancement, across the floor combination and
various dance routines through out the year.
Ballet
Classical, Lyrical, Contemporary Ballet and Pointe
work will be studied by students who follow this
syllabus. The curriculum will improve strength,
flexibility, grave and overall technique. Ballet
exams are also an option within this program.
Adult Tap
Brian is pleased to be able to teach his “ADULT
TAP” program once again. This class is designed for adults who wish to learn to tap. This class is not based on technique, but on fun. With fun, motivating music and a great sense of humour,
Brian is able to take novices and advanced dancers
alike to a new level of success with tap shoes on
their feet. This hour long class is a great form of
exercise and excitement. Do not miss this new
style of adult tap being offered for the first time in
the Comox Valley!

Being a dancer is a privilege. You are obliged to give 100% to your dancing partners, your
dance teacher, your technique, your dance routines, and most importantly to yourself. If you
are willing to put in the time in class, the extra time needed for at home practice and you are
willing to have an open mind ready to absorb the information your teachers will provide you
with, you will succeed.
Dance Etiquette and Behaviour
We look forward to creating a positive atmosphere for all students attending the studio. It is
our responsibility to show appropriate and respectful behavior towards the students and in
turn we feel the students should be respectful and show appropriate behavior towards all
teachers and reception staff while on the premises. If any problems occur, parents will be
contacted and a solution will be discussed.
Attendance and Commitment
During each dance season students work on a choreographed dance which will be performed
in the year-end Recital. Students enjoy a great sense of pride and accomplishment through
hard work and dedication. Our goal is to see each student improve his or her performance
and technical skills throughout the year. A successful performance requires both attendance
and commitment to dance classes, we ask therefore that students attend their classes
regularly.
Reinforcing the work each week goes a long way to increasing the student's self-esteem.
Students missing 4 or more consecutive classes (without just cause) may, at the discretion of
the teacher, be excluded from the year- end performance. Please remember dancing is a team
effort, no different than any other sport and we all rely on each other to be here. Please
contact the studio if your child will be absent from class.
Dance Attire
We believe that looking your best will aid you in becoming your best. The dress code will
be followed by all students attending BKSD. We feel that it is very important for students to
be 'properly covered' so as not to make themselves or others in the class feel uncomfortable.
Therefore, it is studio policy that no students wear outfits that expose the midriff in any way,
as well as low dance pants that expose the underwear line. As in every activity in which we
participate, the appropriate dress code is implemented for a reason. For dancing, wearing
proper dance wear to class allows ease of movement, as well as providing the teacher with
the ability to detect and correct any physical problems students may have with their body
alignment. It is suggested that articles of clothing and shoes be labeled with the student's
name, in order to minimize lost items.
Please remember Proper dance attire only.

Hair
Bun, braid (pinned up) French braid (pinned up),
ponytail (placed in a hair snood) are the easiest
options. There are endless options for the hair.
Please work to keep the hair pulled up and tidy and
out of your face. Having hair in the dancer's face
when working on turns can be most distracting to
both the dancer and the dancers around them.
Parking
At BKSD parking is very limited. We encourage
parents to drop off students and return when the
class is over. Students are not permitted to leave
the lobby until they see their ride outside. This also
helps to cut down on the crowding in the lobby and
change room. Please do not park or block our kind
neighbour's driveway and please do not park on
both sides of Dingwall Road as the larger vehicles
cannot pass through. You are allowed to park downstairs after 5:00 pm but not during their business hours. Thank you for your cooperation.
BKSD Lobby
Please come in from time to time to see if any news
concerning the school has been posted or updated.
Always check if you have missed any newsletters
that did not make it home to you.
Change Room
Please treat the school as you would your own
home or anyone else's home. Keep it tidy! Please
no street shoes in the change area. Remember the
change room and lobby are quiet areas because the
sound travels into the studio and distracts the class
that is working. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Thank you!
School Pro-D Days

been made.
Statutory Holidays
